Conus Medullaris Position in an Adult Population: Analysis of Magnetic Resonance Imaging International Journal of Morphology
Karabulut,Ozlen; Akay,Hatice; Karabulut,Zulfu; Özevren,Hüseyin; Saka,Gunay; Hatipoglu,Savas; Deveci,Engin.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the variation in position of the conus medullaris (CM) in male and female patients without spinal deformity, to correlate the termination level in magnetic resonance (MR) images of the lumbar spine. 921 patients consisted of 607 men and 314 women were evaluated by MRI. The strength of T1 weighted MRI device was 1.5 Tesla. The patients were in supine position when measured. The termination level of the conus medullaris was recorded in relation to the upper, middle or lower third of the adjacent vertebra and the adjacent intervertebral disc. The patients in our study group were examined for low back pain. The members with spinal deformity were excluded. The distribution of conus medullaris localization was measured...

Corpus Callosum Size, is There a Sexual Difference? International Journal of Morphology
Yasin,Mohammad; Farahani,Reza Mastery.
Physical anthropometry is a subdivision of human anatomy science, which has uses in medical industries. A lot of studies showed that genetic, racial, and socioeconomic factors and educational background play rule in anthropometry. We aim this study to determine the presence of differences between gender and corpus callosum size. MRIs were collected from Ardebil and Kermanshah states done in 2013, the participants were informed about this study. They were selected based on age more than 20-years old, absence of demyelization and degenerative diseases, clean history of for neurosurgery, and previous cerebrovascular accidents. MRIs were analyzed by PmsDview program in the midsagittal section by using 9 landmarks, and the data was analyzed by SPSS 19.0. The...

Evaluation of the gonad volume throughout magnetic resonance imaging in Crassostrea gigas and comparison with the histological method ArchiMer
Flahauw, Emilie; Davenel, Armel; Quellec, Stéphane; Quillien, Virgile; Degremont, Lionel; Lapegue, Sylvie; Hatt, Philippe-jacques.
Biological parameters of the cupped oyster Crassostrea gigas such as growth, reproductive effort (duration of the gametogenesis, date of spawning, and fecundity) differ widely among oysters in the same location. Furthermore, most of the traditional methods, like histological observations, could lead to large variability on the observations and the measurements ofthese traits, and large uncertainties on their changes over time. These can be drastically reduced by using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) which is a non invasive method allowing to measure the same individual during its development. Forty oysters were assessed using MRI for the volume of whole soft body, the intra valves space, the adductor muscle, and the gonad, which also include the digestive...

Gonad volume assessment in the oyster Crassostrea gigas: Comparison between a histological method and a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) method ArchiMer
Flahauw, Emilie; Quellec, Stephane; Davenel, Armel; Degremont, Lionel; Lapegue, Sylvie; Hatt, Philippe-jacques.
Previous studies comparing Crassostrea gigas selected lines with different susceptibility to summer mortality concluded that the higher the reproductive effort the lower the survival. But theywere lacking individual followup of this reproductive effort which would be of great interest to help us to understand the physiology of the oysters facing summermortalities. Themost frequently usedmethod for assessing the volume of the gonad is to measure the area it occupies on histological sections. Gonad measurement by magnetic resonance imaging, in contrast, is non-destructive and therefore makes it possible to assess individual evolution as well as to compare individuals. The present study compared the values of gonad volume by thismethodwith the values of gonad...

Investigation of marine bivalve morphology by in vivo MR imaging: first anatomical results of a promising technique ArchiMer
Pouvreau, Stephane; Rambeau, Marc; Cochard, Jean-claude; Robert, Rene.
Classically, investigation of the internal morphology and composition of molluscs and especially bivalves relies on destructive method (biometry, biochemistry and histology). These techniques have given essential information, but in contrast are time consuming and lead to the irreversible loss of the animal while they don't allow integration of the various levels of molecular-to-organism functioning. The aim of this study is to analyze for the first time the potential of NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) imaging (MRI) to depict, with sufficient resolution and satisfactory contrast, the anatomy of a bivalve model, the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, without opening it. MRI experiments were carried out at 19 °C in several non-anaesthetized adult Pacific...

Magnetic resonance imaging and pathological features of a mixed glioma in a dog: case report Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Granato,T.M.; Mesquita,L.P.; Costa,R.C.; Andrade Neto,J.P.; Maiorka,P.C..
ABSTRACT The aim of this report was to describe the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and pathological features of a canine mixed glioma. A 12-year-old boxer male dog was presented for necropsy along with data from an MRI evaluation conducted ante-mortem. The images were examined and showed a poorly demarcated prosencephalic lesion, hyperintense on T2W images, hypointense on T1W images and heterogeneously hyperintense on T2W FLAIR images. There was mild nonuniform contrast enhancement, apparent midline shift, moderate perilesional edema and marked distortion of the adjacent lateral ventricle. The brain was evaluated macroscopically, microscopically and immunohistochemically. Grossly, there was a poorly demarcated soft mass, with areas of hemorrhage, within...

Magnetic resonance imaging as a means to assess the body growth and the gonad development of the oyster Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer
Hatt, Philippe-jacques; Davenel, Armel; Eliat, Pierre-antoine; Quellec, Stephane.
To make a preliminary exploration of the possibilities and limits of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for assessing body growth and gonad development of the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, individual monitoring was conducted on diploid and triploid oysters in their second year, maintained from February to October in a pond on the French Atlantic coast. Magnetic resonance imaging was done on each oyster on five dates during the study period. From these images, variations in the volumes of the flesh, digestive gland-gonad and adductor muscle, and the surface of the gills were measured over time. Apart from the well known differences between diploids and triploids related to maturation of gametes, other original observations of assessing growth were made...

The Relationship between Total Calvarial Thickness and Diploe in the Elderly International Journal of Morphology
Sabanciogullari,Vedat; Salk,Ismail; Cimen,Mehmet.
The aim of this study is the classification of the thickness of diploe, lamina externa, lamina interna and total calvarial thickness at different points of cranium in elderly men and women. In the radiology archive, measurements were made at different points in cranial MR images of 220 (110 females, 110 males) patients, the average ages of whom were 73.23 ± 8.40 (age range: 61-90) and who had no disorder of the bones. Diploe thickness, lamina externa, lamina interna and total calvarial thickness were measured in eight points of the calvaria. Midfrontal point, back and front bregma, lambda, opisthocranion and euryonpoints were used in the measurement. The data was loaded to SPSS 16.0 program. T-test, Mann-Whitney U, Pearson correlation coefficient and...
